Successful Extension of the ELLIS Unit Freiburg

The ELLIS Unit Freiburg is pleased to announce its successful extension within the European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems (ELLIS) network. Following a reapplication process, our Unit has been granted a five-year extension, reaffirming Freiburg’s position as a leading center for artificial intelligence and machine learning in Europe.

The extension was based on a review of our institutional performance. Key evaluation criteria included our research excellence, engagement with the ELLIS PhD network, and efforts toward gender diversity. Additionally, the committee recognized our contributions to the ELLIS Society and our record of collaborative output with researchers across the European network.

As one of the 25 successfully extended Units, Freiburg continues to support the overall ELLIS mission: building a world-class AI research community that keeps Europe at the forefront of global scientific progress.
