Unit Mission

A hub for machine learning for the real world.
The ELLIS Unit Delft strives to create positive impact both in the academic discipline of machine learning, as well as on society. We do this by fostering meaningful collaborations at local, national, and European levels to align fundamental AI developments with domain-specific applications and societal challenges.

Participating Institutions

Delft University of Technology (TU Delft)

Research Agenda

Research activities focus on advancing techniques and applications within machine learning, which can be broadly categorised into six themes:

  • Bayesian, probabilistic, statistical & causal machine learning
  • Sequential decision making
  • Safe and responsible AI
  • Multiagent systems & robust and adversarial machine learning
  • Deep learning & representation learning
  • Optimization & computational techniques
This is complemented by research into applied use cases via collaborations with academic research centres, industrial partners, and public institutions. Unit members participate in various interdisciplinary and (inter)national research and educational programmes and centres.
